I recently had my first meal here and I tried the pork noodle soup. The portion size is quite generous for the $10 price. It's definitely worth a try! The soup is delicious, with the flat noodles (hor fun) and pork topping; it was very filling for me.
The atmosphere of the place is nice and feels homey. I highly recommend eating here, especially if you want a meal straight away. However, if you're looking to hang out with friends or stay for a while, it might not be the best fit. Overall, the offerings are great and perfect for someone looking for a quick bite! 😍💯✨

Delicious South Eastern Asian cuisine. Curry, rice dishes, and satay skewers. It is popular and super affordable. Lunch time in particular expect a long queue.

A cheap eat restaurant with a variety of dishes, great food portion to value. Cozy atmosphere but quite noisy as staff is a bit messy and run around. Taste of homemade food (tasty but not special). It is a nice place to have lunch with friends. Take away or delivery is available.

I’ve dined at Nanyang Express in Chinatown Melbourne multiple times and can confidently say that the food is consistently excellent and well-prepared. The Hainanese Chicken is usually tender and flavorful, though it can occasionally be slightly undercooked during peak hours. My personal favorites include the Kolo Mee series, Chee Cheng Fun, Braised Pork Knuckle on Rice, Chicken Chop Rice or Noodles, all deserving of an 8-9/10. The Sarawak Laksa is decent (7/10), but as someone from Sarawak, I may have very high standards!
The service is great, especially considering how busy it gets. The staff are welcoming and helpful, even under pressure. Cleanliness is a strong point—utensils, tables, and even the toilet are well-maintained (I’d rate the toilet hygiene 6.5/10).
The atmosphere is lively and enjoyable, although it can get noisy at times due to some loud customers. Waiting times are reasonable, but finding a table can sometimes be a challenge, especially when other patrons behave unreasonably (e.g., arguing over tables).
Overall, Nanyang Express offers a delightful experience with authentic flavors and solid service. Highly recommend trying their Fish Fillet Noodle Soup, Kaya Toast, Soft-Boiled Eggs, and Teh Tarik too!

Located china town, near cnr of Russel and little Bourke.
Hawker style and basic but clean setup inside. Tables and counters for singles, order at the bar. Accept cash or card and no weekend surcharge where paying with cash. Don't go here to impress a date.
Do go for a cheap meal (vegetarian options inc soup, noodles, nasi lemak) or meat options. They have lunch specials as well. Big serves (light on veggies). Self serve water, sambal and chilli.
Quick service and food delivery.
I ordered the vegetarian penang curry mee for a steal at $10 (picture before I stirred in the paste) and it was a filling and yummy bowl of comfort food.
