REVIEWS

quote I can’t believe I can still find a $10 kway teow soup and Hainan chicken rice in Melbourne's CBD in this inflationary economy. This is probably the cheapest place in Australia. Unlike the $8 boat noodles in Sydney's Haymarket, where the portions are tiny and not very flavorful (in my opinion), the foods here are really done to a premium standard. The kway teow soup is perfectly made with a rich yet natural sweetness pork broth, fresh kway teow, and a surprisingly generous portion. The crispy pork lard added to the soup really brings me back to those days jalan jalan around Penang or Ipoh. The chicken rice is just okay (perhaps by my Asian standards), but the rice is cooked with chicken broth, unlike many places here that serve it with white rice - what a crime. I can tell the chicken, after poaching, is kept in ice to tighten the skin and make it bouncy. There's no ginger scallion sauce as expected, but what do you expect from a $10 dish when ginger costs $20 to $30 per kg here. 9/10 🍜

quote Best value for money $10 food that you can't find anywhere else in Melbourne. Foods are amazingly good. $10 for hainanese chicken rice, pork lard dry noodle, nasi lemak, curry noodles, Sarawak noodles etc. All stir fry dishes are around $15 which are also cheap and I find them very delicious and authentic. Seriously, good food you can't find any cheaper than this. So grateful to find another canteen for meal after work in the city.

quote Almost everything on the menu is around $10, yet the quality of the dishes is excellent. We had white curry noodles, Hainanese chicken rice, and fried noodles. Portion is a lot for this price. I will definitely come back, no doubt

quote Fantastic, friendly service. Food is decent but there’s certainly room for improvement. Pork noodles: good strong flavours but there is a bit of an unpleasant porky smell, particularly in the meat patties. Kolo mee: bursting with flavour but a little too heavy handed on the pepper. Pickled chillies are nice and spicy.

quote A generous portion for this price during lunch hour. Chicken rice was well worth it, great taste for value. Char Koay Teow flavor was on point, color could be a little darker, but I guess that varies across regions in Malaysia? Teh Tarik (milk tea) was a little too sweet, had to add water. Vegetarian options are also available too!
